Are you dissatisfied with your pearly whites like many others who are suffering from chipped teeth? Do you usually find yourself unable to smile because you get embarrassed? It is actually quite easy to back the smile on your face because there are many treatments that can be done by dentists. Most of these can be done the instant you walk into a clinic while some would take some of your time but they would certainly we worth the trouble.

The first thing you have to do is to have your chipped teeth checked by a dentist. The doctor would most likely perform a series of tests on you including X-rays in order to gauge the extent of the chipping. Sometimes, it would not be serious and would only require a simple procedure but there are also cases when the teeth around it are also affected. One of the clear indications of this is when the tooth hurts.

One of the simplest ways to repair chipped teeth is by reshaping it. This can be done if the damage is in the enamel only. The chip will be smoothed and buffed until it looks more natural. The procedure is fairly easy to do and can be finished after just one session with the dentist. Tooth reshaping is not an option if the damage extends beneath the enamel or the dentine of the tooth because bacteria can get through it. In cases like this, a more complex solution will be taken by the dentist.

If the chipping occurred fairly recently, keep the chipped part and soak it in a milk solution or salty water. This will help if you plan to have it bonded to your chipped teeth. Bonding is akin to tooth reshaping but the difference is that the fractured piece is returned to the damaged teeth. A bonding agent is applied in order to merge the parts. If you don’t have the fractured piece, the dentist would most likely bond a filling that have the same color as your other teeth so that it wouldn’t look artificial.

When the extent of the damage can serve potential danger to the nerves below the teeth, the doctor can choose between two treatments. The first solution to fix badly chipped teeth is to apply a veneer coat. This coating is a preferred option because it is made from porcelain laminates and it blends well with the teeth especially since it is as thin as nails. In cases where there are major damages to the chipped tooth or if it is rotten, the dentist would most likely used a crown to fix it. The crown will prevent other damages as well as keep the bacteria out.

Once you have your chipped teeth repaired, take care of it by performing good oral hygiene. If you do this, you can prevent damaging the teeth in the surrounding areas. Do not forget to have a regular check-up and choose to eat food that is rich in calcium.
